The Ebonyi State Government has officially launched the construction of an 8-kilometer road connecting four key communities—Ebyia Unuphu, Nkaleke, Echara, and Mgbabor—within Abakaliki, the state capital.

This landmark project aims to accelerate rural development in Ebonyi State, enhance agricultural productivity, and expand the capital’s infrastructure footprint.
Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by the State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Lebechi Mbam flagged off the project. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to driving growth through infrastructure and human capital investment.
According to Engr. Mbam, the road construction is divided into four segments, each awarded to different indigenous contractors to ensure quality execution and timely project delivery. Designed with a 6-inch rigid pavement, the road will also feature standard drainage systems and culverts and is expected to be completed within eight months.
“These are rural roads. We have lots of agricultural activities going on in these villages,” Mbam stated. “When we construct this road, it will help us improve agricultural activities by easing the evacuation of farm produce. This will increase food production and reduce food scarcity in Ebonyi State.”
Community Stakeholders Applaud Governor Nwifuru’s Leadership
In their separate remarks, stakeholders applauded Governor Nwifuru for his focus on grassroots development. Among them were:
- Hon. Chidi Nwoke, Member representing Abakaliki North State Constituency
